Host

Professional Host

PROFESSIONAL HOSTING is a chance for San Diegan professionals to meet international colleagues in their field of interest. It is an excellent opportunity for a mutual exchange which educates both parties and often yields long-standing business and personal contacts. Meetings typically last one hour but various types of arrangements can be made to incorporate site visits, observations, trainings, interviews, and more.

Home Hospitality

DINNER HOSPITALITY is a great opportunity for members to see themselves more clearly in the mirror of other cultures and belief systems, help improve the U.S. image in the global community, and make new friends around the world. And all this can happen over an evening meal in your home or a local restaurant.

"Our first experience hosting was wonderful! We can’t wait to do this again and have told so many people about our evening already! I have to admit I was a little nervous not knowing what to expect but the evening was so enjoyable! We did not want them to leave and wished the evening could go on and on. Thanks so much for making this possible." - Dinner Hospitality at Members, Shelly and Raul Valdez's home

HOME STAY HOSPITALITY

Home stay hospitality is a cultural and personal opportunity to host one of our international visitors in your home for a week or more, depending on the program and the arrangement. These are emerging leaders who want to stay with Americans and immerse themselves in our culture and way of life while they are here. The past experiences of our members have been very positive. You will learn about a different culture first-hand, get an opportunity to make a lasting international connection, and make a difference in promoting global understanding.

Contact Enrique Meza to explore this opportunity.

Responsibilities and Requirements:

  • Provide bedroom and access to bathroom for your visitor.
  • Morning drop-off and late afternoon pick-up at our office in North Park during the week.
  • Light breakfast in the morning. Some, not all, dinners.
  • Depending on their program, some week-end days are planned, some are open for you to show your visitor(s) around town.

We support our home hosts by:

  • Arranging an Orientation Gathering where all host families meet so you can coordinate carpools, get to know who else is hosting, and learn about what to expect.
  • Providing Host Information Packets, which include country information, a 24/7 San Diego Diplomacy Council contact person, visitor(s) background information, and visitor(s) profession meetings agenda.
