The Program:  Speakers  Bettina Haussmann  Bettina Haussmann has travelled extensively in the Middle East region. Growing up in Communist East Germany\, Bettina’s early adulthood was shaped by living behind the Iron Curtain – and with a Jewish heritage.    Her educational background includes graduate studies in International Relations/Middle East Politics at UCSD School of International Relations; degree in Economics from Otto-von-Guericke University (Germany); degree in Global Studies from UCSB.  Bettina has been actively involved in the United Nations Association of Germany and\, more recently\, in United Nations Association-San Diego as Vice-President and chair of the Women’s Equity Council.  Amir Ali Shoja  With direct experience living in Iran and the US\, Amir will help us understand the complexities of the situation in Iran today. Born in Iran in 1979 (the year of the Revolution)\, Amir lived there till 1996 when he migrated to the United States. DESCRIPTION:Delegates from Saudi Arabia will learn about the role of government agencies\, advocacy groups\, and grassroots organizations to influence policy and advocate for the rights of trafficked or enslaved persons.  They will observe cooperation among law enforcement agencies at the federal\, state\, and local level as well as the their relationship with NGOs regarding anti-trafficking policies and activities.  Meetings will cover an analysis of the root causes of trafficking and the crucial policies and practices needed to prevent its proliferation and Highlight social service organizations that assist victims of trafficking and observe the means by which they publicize their efforts.  In addition\, delegates will observe programs and techniques for identifying possible victims of trafficking in persons from among prostitutes\, illegal migrants\, deportees\, and forced laborers.
